Page 1, Column 6Truro Resident Takes Own Life
Russell W. Smith of Truro took his own life at his home there Saturday morning by shooting.
Mr. Smith had been in failing health since having suffered a stroke four years ago and was known to have been depressed about his physical condition. He was 56 years of age.
He was at home alone when his death occurred. His body was found in the doorway of his garage by his wife when she returned home.
Coroner Paul Eggleston and Sheriff C. A. Letz of Winterset were called. After investigation, Coroner Eggleston said no inquest would be necessary.
Mr. Smith's nearest surviving relatives are his wife of Truro and a daughter by a previous marriage who lives in Des Moines.
