DEATH OF J. H. D. McALLISTER

Van Meter--(Special)--J.H.D. McAllister passed away at his home at 2116 West 35th street Des Moines at 7:30 Wednesday morning, March 16th, after a short illness of bronchial pneumonia. He was eighty-two years old. Mr. McAllister and his family were long time residents of Jefferson township. Mr. and Mrs. McAllister retired from the farm about ten years ago and have lived in Des Moines since.

Joseph Harshaw David McAllister son of the Rev. Robert and Elizabeth Todd McAllister, was born October 13, 1855 at Port Arthur, Ontario, Canada.

He was left fatherless when eight years of age, at which time his mother returned with him to her native Ireland to live with her father. At twelve years of age he began supporting himself.

Early in the eighties he came to the United States and began working in Des Moines. Later he took up farming.

On October 16, 1884 he was united in marriage to Fannie E. Wilson who still survives. To this union there were born eleven children of whom the following seven survive: Robert T. McAllister of Churdan, Frank J., and William J., of Booneville, Walter A., of Macomb, Ill., Harry L., of Tacoma, Wash., Floyd of Brooklyn, and Clarence of Hinckley, Minn., besides twelve grandchildren.

Mr. McAllister was a life long supporter and devoted much of his time to the church.

The funeral was held here Friday afternoon at the Fisher funeral home, conducted by the Rev. E. A. Elliott. The Misses Marie Henry and Helen Killam sang. Burial was at the Union Chapel cemetery.

McAllister and family of Booneville, Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. McAllister and family of Macomb, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Floyd McAllister and family of Brooklyn, Clarence McAllister of Hinckley, Minn., Zenas K. Russell and daughter, Miss Marian Russell of Waterloo, Carl Roherbeck of Carroll, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Wilson and Mr. and Mrs. William Wilson of Woodward, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wilson of Grimes, Mrs. Lizzie Straight of Perry, Mr. and Mrs. Rittgers of Ankeny and Lloyd Wilson of Waukee.
