FORMER RESIDENT OF PERU SUCCUMBS

Mrs. Alice Vines Died Last Week at Her Home in Des Moines

Mrs. Alice Vines, formerly a well-known resident of Peru, died at her home in Des Moines, March 14 after a stroke. She was 79 years of age.

Mrs. Vines was born in Henry county, Ill., and came to Olin, Ia., with her parents, when 5 years old. For several years the family remained at Olin, and then moved to Peru which was her home until 18 years ago, when she moved to Des Moines.

Mrs. Vines was a member of the Methodist church at Olin, and united with the Christian church at Peru, retaining a life-long membership. Her church activities were many. She was an active worker in the Sunday school and the W.C.T.U. and for several years was a county worker in the Sunday school program.

Mrs. Vines was the widow of A. B. Vines. Together they were, for 21 years, publishers and editors of the East Peru Mail.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Maye Young of Des Moines; a son, Jerome Vines of Des Moines; two sisters, Mrs. C. T. Millard of Des Moines and Mrs. E. L. Simmons of Kansas City, Mo.; a grandson, Harry Young of Des Moines; and three great grandchildren, two nieces, Mrs. A. B. Whelpley of Davenport, and Mrs. Harold Pederson of Des Moines.
