CHESTER MEAD OF PATTERSON DIES

Widely-Known Merchant Is Victim of Heart Attack

Chester P. Mead, for 17 years a merchant at Patterson, and one of the most widely-known men in that community, died last Saturday of a heart attack. He had been in poor health for several months, but had been thought to be improving lately. He was 60 years old.

Mr. Mead was born near Chillicothe, Mo., on February 25, 1876, the son of A. P. and Elizabeth Mead. As a small boy, he came with his parents to Lucas, Iowa. HIs home was there until after his marriage, December 24, 1896, to Isabell Cellan of Lucas. Immediately after his marriage he moved to the vicinity of Patterson.

The deceased is survived by his wife, his son, Earl, and his grandson,---, all of Patterson. He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Joe Randolph of Des Moines, Mrs. Ed Hayworth of Lucas, Mrs. Scottie Chambers of Norwalk, and Mrs. William Jones of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Patterson Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. E. L. Patterson of St. Charles. Burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery.

Chester Mead, who for seventeen years, has been in business in Patterson, passed away at his home Saturday, February 26th. Mr. Mead, who was the son of A. P. and Elizabeth was born near Chillicothe, Mo. , February 25, 1876. He moved with his parents to Lucas while a small boy. There he grew to manhood and was united in marriage to Isabelle Cellan, Dec. 24, 1896.

Since that time he and Mrs. Mead have lived in or near Patterson. He is survived by his wife, a son Earl and wife, and a grandson, Garry Doan Mead of Patterson, and four sisters, Mrs. Joe Randolph of Des Moines, Mrs. Ed Hayworth of Lucas, Mrs. Scottie Chambers of Norwalk and Mrs. William Jones of Winterset, all of whom were present at the funeral.

Funeral services were conducted from the Patterson M. E. church Monday afternoon with Rev. Patterson of St. Charles in charge. Interment was made in the Montpelier cemetery. Pallbearers were John and Howard Lull, Guy and W. C. Fogler, Noah Blosser, and Denver Johnston.

Among the relatives and friends attending the funeral services were Mrs. Etta Carson, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Holt, Mr. and Mrs. Verl Carson, Mr. and Mrs. John Rhynerson, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Randolph and daughter, Marie, Norman Randolph, Mrs. David Evans, Mrs. Scot Hook, Cell Nyswanger, Mrs. Beard, Mrs. Davis, and Mrs. And Mrs. Floyd Folwell of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. William Carson of Creston, Mrs. Alex Clellan, and son William of Conger, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Kilmer and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Gray, Mrs. Erwin Bodwell, Mrs. Robert Dunn, Josephine and Alvin Cooper, William Jones, and Belle Headley of Winterset, Mrs. And Mrs. Nels Epperson of St. Charles, Dale Stout of Earlham, Mr. and Mrs. Preston Leach of Lucas, Miss Iona Clellan, Mr. and Mrs. Verl Cunningham and daughter, Lois, and Mr. and Mrs. George Kinnaird of Patterson.
