Melissa Jane Philva Pettit was born in Madison county, Iowa, Aug. 2, 1845, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed Hulbert, Feb. 10, 1942 at the age of 96 years, 6 months and 8 days.
She was married to Mr. Pettit in 1884. Mrs. Pettit is survived by three children, Mrs. Dollie Hulbert of Prole, Ike Pettit of Orient and Jake Pettit of Winterset; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. She had the raising of a number of step children, all of whom are left to mourn her departure. Her husband and one daughter, Mrs. Daisy Baker, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Pettit was a member of a Baptist church in Missouri.
Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset in charge of the Rev. J. H. Machlan. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.
