Apparently in Good Health, Winterset Man Succumbs to Heart Attack
Clyde Davis, well-known Winterset resident, died suddenly at his home here shortly before 2 a.m. Wednesday of a heart attack. He was 39 years old.
Davis' death came as a shock to all acquaintances, for he was never known to have heart trouble. He had worked until 11 p.m. Tuesday night at the North Side cafe, and at that time appeared to be in excellent health and spirits. Three hours later he was dead.
Davis was the son of W. F. and Nora White Davis, and was born on a farm near Earlham. He attended school in Earlham, and as a young man took up farming, which he followed for most of his life. During the past few years he had lived in Winterset.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hattie Davis, now of California; his father, Will F. Davis of Winterset; five brothers, Frank Davis of Winterset, Albert Davis of Des Moines, Cecil Davis of New Sharon, Ed Davis of Winterset, and Russell Davis of Winterset; and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Bainter of Van Meter and Mrs. Harry Brown of Des Moines.
Funeral arrangements had not been completed as the Madisonian went to press Wednesday afternoon.

Clyde Willes Davis, son of Will and Nora Davis, was born near Earlham, on February 24, 1899 and died at Winterset, on March 9th, 1938 aged 39 years, and 12 days. He has spent his entire life in Madison county. His early years were spent on a farm, near Earlham. He received his education in the Earlham public schools.
During the past few years he has lived in Winterset where he was employed. He was a faithful worker.
On January 25th, 1926 he was united in marriage to Hattie Matthews. Clyde was one of a family of nine children. Two sisters and five brothers. One sister died in infancy. His mother passed away in 1918.
Those who mourn his death are his wife, father, two sisters, and five brothers, Mrs. Hattie Davis of Winterset; Will F. Davis of Winterset; Mrs. Arthur Bainter of Van Meter; Mrs. Harry Brown of Des Moines; Frank Davis of Winterset; Albert Davis of Des Moines; Cecil Davis of New Sharon; Ed Davis of Winterset; and Russell Davis of Winterset, and a host of friends.

He is survived by his wife, now of California; his father, W. F. Davis of Winterset; five brothers, Frank of Winterset, Albert of Des Moines, Cecil of New Sharon, Ed of Winterset, and Russell of Winterset; and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Bainter of Van Meter and Mrs. Harry Brown of Des Moines. He was a nephew of O. A. Davis of Earlham.
Arrangements for funeral services are awaiting the arrival of Mrs. Davis from California.
