MRS. J. M. CRAVEN DIED HERE TUESDAY

Winterset Resident Succumbs After More Than Year of Failing Health

Mrs. J. M. Craven, a well-known Winterset resident for many years died at her home here Tuesday afternoon after more than a year of failing health. She was 53 years of age.

Mrs. Craven's home had always been in Madison county. She was the former Stella Rose Beem, daughter of Lemuel and Laura Beem and was born near Winterset on July 7, 1888. She was married to J. M. Craven on Nov. 8, 1908. They settled on a farm in Jackson township, living there until about 18 years ago, when they moved to Winterset. Since then their home had been here with the exception of last year, which they spent in Jackson township again.

Mrs. Craven is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Letha Leachman of San Diego, Cal., and Mrs. Lela Ballard of Douglas, Wyo.; and two sons, Lester Craven of Des Moines and Floyd of the United States navy who only this week was sent to sea on board one of the American fighting ships.

She also leaves a brother, Clarence Beem of Winterset; three sisters, Mrs. Lula Estel, Susie Beem and Mrs. Amanda Allen, all of Winterset; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2:30 p.m. from Anderson's home for funerals. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
