Wednesday, August 24, 1937Mrs. Lillian Brockway Dies
Mrs. Lillian Brockway, former Winterset resident, died at her home in Malta, Montana, August 9th after a lingering illness. She was 84 years of age. Her funeral services were held at the Little White church at Malta on August 11th and burial was made in that town.
Mrs. Brockway was the former Lillian Nichols and was born at Allen, Michigan, November 13, 1852. Her marriage to Benjamin Wells Brockway took place in 1870, and they came to Winterset to make their home in 1889. Eight years later they moved to Montana, where they have since resided.
She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Hugo Stolley of Chicago. A daughter, Ethel Brockway Smith and a son, Clarence J. Brockway, preceded her in death. A brother, J. D. Nichols of Mason City and five grandchildren, George Stolley of Pekin, Illinois, Mrs. Erwin Frank and Mrs. Fred Leypoldt of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, B. W. Brockway of Helena and Edna Mae Brockway of Dillon, survive.
Three former Winterset residents served as pallbearers; Roy and Edgar Lee of Malta and Chet Mott of Dodson, Montana.
