Veteran Walnut Township Farmer Dies Following Accident
Injuries received when he was struck by a truck on a road near Peru February 7th proved fatal to James Decker, 72 year old Walnut township farmer. Decker died Thursday, the day following the accident, in the Winterset hospital, where he had been taken with compound fractures of the bones of his legs.
Decker received the fatal injuries when struck by a truck while standing by his car which had stalled at the bottom of a hill. Mrs. Decker, who was sitting in the car which was also struck, was not seriously injured.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Peru Methodist church under the direction of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead of Winterset, assisted by Rev. Barker of Peru. Burial was made in the Peru cemetery.

James Albert Decker was born in Knox county, Missouri, December 9, 1859. He departed this life February 8th, 1934, at the Winterset hospital at the age of 75 years, one month and 29 days.
He was married to Mary Adeline Porter in 1883. To this union was born seven children. Walter who died in infancy, Beulah Hiatt who died in 1922 and this wife have all preceded him in death. Mrs. Lillie Bickell of El Reno, Oklahoma, Mrs. Bertha Hiatt, Mrs. Dorothy Foster both of Selah, Washington and Mrs. Dessie Meader of Dayton and Elmer Decker of Peru, are the children left to mourn his loss. Besides sixteen grandchildren and his present wife Elsie Pearl Baker whom he married in February 1918. He also leaves one sister Mrs. Sarah Porter of Lorimor.
