PERU FARMER KILLED BY DYNAMITE BLAST

Jeff Hogg of near Peru was fatally injured Tuesday afternoon while blasting stumps. A charge of dynamite which he had several times unsuccessfully tried to discharge, finally went off as he was investigating it.

Hogg was working in a field alone at the time of the mishap, but a neighbor who witnessed the incident from a distance said that the victim was blown about six feet in the air by the explosion. Although badly mangled, Hogg was still alive when rushed to the Winterset hospital. He died about three hours later.

Hogg lived about one mile southeast of Peru.
