Mrs. Tate's interests and activities were many. She was a member of the Winterset chapter, O.E.S., and was active in the W.C.T.U. for many years heading the Madison county group of that organization. During her later years she turned to writing, and her literary efforts met with considerable success. She was accorded a membership in the Iowa Authors' club. She was a leading figure in the organization of the Daughters of Union Veterans in Winterset. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church for many years.

She leaves five children, Ralph Arthur Tate of Fontana, Cal., Mrs. Edith Rhyno of Des Moines, Mrs. Beth Stevens of Missoula, Mont., Mrs. Helen Sproul of Des Moines, and Alfred L. Tate of Davenport.
