WILLIAM SMALLEY PASSED SATURDAY

Prominent Citizen Victim of Heart Attack at His Home Here

William L. Smalley, long-time resident of Winterset, and one of this community's most prominent citizens, died suddenly at his home here last Saturday of a heart attack. He was 66 years of age.

Mr. Smalley was born in Marshall county, Iowa, on May 10, 1872, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Smalley. He came to Winterset as a young man in 1898 and was engaged as an abstractor with the Alvin Shriver real estate company. In 1908 he purchased the business, which he operated for a number of years. With the exception of a year spent in Minneapolis, this community had been his home for nearly 40 years.

Mr. Smalley is survived by his wife, who was the former Miss Mayme Bevington, and by four sons by a former marriage. They are: Anson Smalley of Ontario, Cal., and Harold, William and John Smalley of Los Angeles. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Myra Lillibridge of Waterloo, and two brothers, Frank Smalley of Los Angeles, and Tuey Smalley of Marshalltown.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at his home here, conducted by the Rev. L. F. Davis. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
