MILDRED SCHULTZ, Truro

Mildred Blanche Schultz, 97, of rural Truro died May 10, 2007, at Good Samaritan Home in Indianola.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 14, at the Truro United Methodist Church with Pastors Doug Helton and Kevin Smith officiating. Burial was at Fields Cemetery in Clarke County.

Mildred Schultz was born July 18, 1909, in Madison County to William Alexander and Mary Ethel (Travis) Sawhill. A graduate of Truro High School, she furthered her education at Iowa State Teachers College. Mildred taught for 11 years — the last four at Prairie Grove School. Her marriage to Earl Fredrick Schultz took place Feb. 25, 1934, in New Virginia. Mildred was involved with her church — teaching Sunday school, directing the choir and playing the organ. She had been a pianist for the Gospel Rambler quartet and, for a number of years, volunteered as a 4-H leader. She also was a member of the Oak Run Community Circle and O.E.S at Truro, where she had served as Worthy Matron.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Laverne Schultz; two sisters, Berneice Phillips and Ardis Whitfield; and a brother, Verle Sawhill.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Sackett of Stuart; one son, Eldon Schultz of Truro; a sister, Vesta Batten of Carlisle; and seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Truro United Methodist Church.
