DON FASTLE DIES IN HIGHWAY CRASH

Earlham Man Killed When Car and Burlington Bus Collide

Don Fastle, aged 25, of Earlham, was fatally injured Monday when a car in which he was a passenger collided with a Burlington Trailways bus on No. 92, one mile east of Fontanelle.

The victim was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fastle of Earlham and had lived most of his life there and near Booneville. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife of Earlham.

Fastle was riding in a car driven by Paul Cunningham Jr., son of Congressman Paul Cunningham of Des Moines. They were enroute to Wahoo, Neb. to seek employment at an ordinance plant under construction there. At the top of a hill they met an eastbound Trailways bus, just as their car skidded on the icy pavement.

Cunningham, the driver of the car was only slightly injured.

DON FASTLE, 25, FATALLY INJURED

Earlham Youth Was killed In Bus-Auto Accident Near Fontanelle.

Don Fastle, 25-year-old Madison county youth, was fatally injured Monday morning when a Burlington Trailways bus and the auto in which he was riding, collided one mile east of Fontanelle, on Highway 92.

The car, being driven by Paul Cunningham, Jr., son of Congressman Paul Cunningham of Des Moines, skidded crossways on the icy pavement at the top of a hill and was struck on the right side by an east bound Burlington bus.

The accident occurred during a heavy snowstorm, as the two boys were on their way to Wahoo, Nebraska, to seek employment at an ordnance plant under construction there.

Fastle lived about an hour following the accident, and death was caused by a skull fracture. Cunningham was critically injured.

Don was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fastle of Earlham. He was born and reared, and received his education in the public schools in Earlham. He had been employed recently at a service station in Des Moines.

Surviving are his wife and one child and his parents.
