DEATH OF J. M. STEWART

John McMillan Stewart died at his home in Winterset on March 18, following a short illness due to Bright's disease. Mr. Stewart and daughter had returned recently from a trip to Leon, where they spent a month with his son, Frank. During the visit, he had seemed quite well and active, but on returning home, became ill and death came in a short time.

Mr. Stewart, who was past 83 years of age, came from Ohio to Madison county in 1868 and made this his permanent home until his death. Mrs. Stewart, who died six years ago, was a sister of the late R. L. Leech, also of Mrs. W. C. Henery.

Of his own family, there remain: Miss Nellie at home, Frank of Leon and Clyde of Chicago; also one brother and one sister, living in Ohio.

Since boyhood, Mr. Stewart had been a devoted member of the United Presbyterian church, his former pastor Rev. W. J. Stewart, coming from Oskaloosa to conduct funeral services on Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Stewart was widely known and deeply respected. He was a successful gardener, and the famous "Stewart strawberries", raised to such excellence for years, have been the delight of the people of this vicinity.
