Arah Jane O誰eal, daughter of Daniel and Mary O誰eal, was born in Barber county, Virginia, now West Virginia, August 23, 1845, and died at her home in St. Charles, on the 10th of September 1930, at the age of 85 years and 18 days. She moved with her parents to New Virginia, Warren county, Iowa, in 1860, when a girl 14 years old. New Virginia was settled by folks from that part of Virginia from where she came. She also knew the meaning of a Civil War.

Here she met and married Joseph VanSocy, who also was from her native state. She had moved to Ottawa, in Clarke county, where she was married March 22, 1872, and they settled on a farm near new Virginia, where they lived for 20 years, moving from there to Woodburn, in Clarke county. After residing there for 10 years they moved to St. Charles in 1901, where they have continued to live.

To this union eight children were born: Mary Alta, who is very poorly and was not able to attend the funeral; Mrs. Laura Fowler, Lair D. VanScoy, who died March 15, 1915; Mrs. Leona Synch, Malinda and Minetta, who died in infancy, Mrs. Almeta Bradshaw and Mrs. Vesta Killam.

She leaves to mourn her loss, Mary Alta, Mrs. Laura Fowler, Mrs. Leona Lynch, Mrs. Almeta Bradshaw, Mrs. Vesta Killam, her aged husband, eighteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mrs. VanScoy was the last one of her family. Funeral services were conducted in the M. E. church last Thursday afternoon by the Rev. F. G.
