Thursday, May 28, 1936Death of Andrew Petersen
Andrew Petersen, for 34 years a resident of Scott township, of this county, died in a hospital at Des Moines, last Thursday following a double operation. Since 1933 he had made his home in Greene county. He was 79 years of age. (d. 5-28-1936)
Mr. Petersen was a native of Niebull, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, where he was born April 30, 1857. As a young man he emigrated to the United States, settling at Clinton, Iowa in 1881. For three years he lived in Crawford county, moving to Des Moines in 1885 where he spent 14 years following the trade of carpenter. In 1889 he moved his family to Scott township, remaining there until 1933.
On January 26, 1882, he married Miss Anna Elizabeth Prehn of Meldorf, Germany, whom he had met on the boat coming over. They were the parents of five sons and one daughter. One son, Peter Petersen died in 1923.
He is survived by his widow; four son, William, Adolph and Rudolph of Paton, Iowa and Theodore Petersen of St. Louis, Missouri; and the daughter, Mrs. Anna C. Doak of Des Moines; three grandchildren and a brother and sister in Germany.
Mr. Petersen was baptized and confirmed in the Evangelical Lutheran church as a child and remained a life-long member.
Funeral services were held from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in Winterset, May 31 in charge of the Rev. C. Lillie of Trinity Lutheran church of Jefferson township. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
