Oliver P. Haxton III, died Saturday, October 15, at a local hospital after a long illness. He was 73.
Mr. Haxton, a native of Dexter, Iowa, moved to Santa Cruz with his parents in 1984. (probably wrong date) He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was decorated for serving in the European Theatre. He returned to Santa Cruz and was married. He worked with the State Department of Corrections as a youth counselor for 23 years. For many of those years he worked at Camp Ben Lomond on Empire Grade. He retired in 1974 and was a member of the Retired California State Employees Association.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Haxton of Santa Cruz; two sons, Michael B. Haxton of Torrance and Wick C. Haxton of Seattle; his daughter, Deborah G. Krieg of Santa Cruz; and two grandsons.
A private committal at sea will occur later. Norman's Family Chapel is in charge of the services.
