Death of Mrs. John Roach

Mrs. John Roach, a long time resident of Madison county, died at her home in Des Moines, Monday morning, May 4 after a short illness with pneumonia, at the age of 75 years. She became seriously ill last Tuesday night, and death came at nine o'clock Monday morning. (d. May 4, 1936)

Mrs. Roach, who was the former Mary Ann Mulvahill, was a daughter of one of the early pioneer families of this county. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Mulvahill came to Madison county in the early fifties and she was born at their home in Lee township, October 16, 1861. Most of her life was spent in this township and here she was married to John Roach, over fifty-three years ago. In 1930 the family moved to Des Moines, where they have since resided.

She is survived by her husband and their six children; Mrs. Ann Walsh and Miss Della Roach of Des Moines, Mrs. Mamie Handley of Adair, Dan Roach of San Francisco, California, Martin Roach of Bevington and John Roach of Norwalk. A son, Maurice, died a number of years ago.

The Rev. Thomas Murphy of St. Peter's church in Des Moines, conducted requiem mass for her at St. Patrick's church in Lee township, Wednesday morning May 6th. He was assisted by the Rev. J. J. Judge of St. Patrick's church and the Rev. Wm. E. Hahessy of St. Joseph's church in Winterset. Burial was in the church cemetery and five grandsons and a nephew served as pallbearers.
