DWIGHT LETZ, Winterset

Dwight L. Letz, 67, of Winterset died May 7, 2007, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 14, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Pastor Rich Koster officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 9 a.m. to service time. Military honors will be performed by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8142 and American Legion Post 184, both of Winterset. Burial of the cremated remains will be in the Winterset Cemetery.

Dwight Letz was born May 20, 1939, to George and Mildred (White) Letz of rural Macksburg and was a 1958 graduate of Earlham High School. His marriage to Rosa Lea “Mickey” McDonald took place Sept. 23, 1961, at the Church of Christ in Earlham. Dwight served in the United States Air Force for 21 years — working in recruiting, personnel and base career advisement. Throughout his career, he was based at several locations around the country and was stationed in Abilene, Texas, when he retired in 1982 with the rank of Master Sergeant. A resident of Winterset since 1990, he was a member of Kiwanis, Jaycees, and the Church of Christ in Earlham. He also attended services at the First Christian Church in Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Frances Gowen.

He is survived by his wife, Mickey, of Winterset; one daughter, Traci (Letz) Donald of Abilene, Texas; one son, Chad Letz of Shawnee, Kan.; two brothers, P.D. Letz of Iowa City and Larry Letz of Spencer; two sisters, Francine Pierce of Van Meter and Margaret Caskey of Windsor Heights; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Dwight’s family.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
