SAMUEL G. BROWN

Samuel G., son of Daniel Brown and Mary Murphy Brown, was born in Illinois, December 5, 1870 and died at his home in Madison county, Iowa, June 8, 1936.

He came to Madison county when a child of two years, with his parents in a covered wagon. At the age of twenty-one he became a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge at Patterson and was a member until death.

He was united in marriage to Alice R. Barber, August 16, 1893. To this union were born thirteen children. He is survived by his wife and nine children; George, Mrs. Alfred Drake, Mrs. Halden Bertholf of Winterset, Mrs. Monroe Rosman of Waterloo, John, Mrs. Vern Fairholm, Ernest, Eugene and Arthur of Winterset.

One sister, Mrs. Aletha Janes of Des Moines and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four children, Clarence and a daughter died in infancy, Claude in 1919, and Gail in September 1935.

Services were held at the Union Chapel church June 10, conducted by the Rev. J. H. Cochrane, pastor of the Winterset Baptist church. Burial was in the Union Chapel cemetery.
