Jay Jacobs died on Monday, May 19, at the home of his son, F. A. Jacobs, in Visalia, California.
Mr. Jacobs was born in Chicago and was raised in Shelby county, Iowa. He came as a young man to Madison county, where his father was at the time pastor of the Winterset Baptist church. Here he was associated in blacksmithing with the late Allie Rees, and later had a shop of his own.
On July 12, 1898 he was married to Wilda Clopton of Winterset. They were the parents of two children, Mrs. Christie Phillips, who died in 1936, and the son, F. A. Jacobs of Visalia. Mrs. Jacobs died in 1956.
After leaving Winterset, Mr. Jacobs lived in Atlantic, Knoxville, Perry and Boone. In 1937 he returned to Winterset, where he and his wife operated the Black and White cafe on the north side of the square. They moved to Lindsay, California, in 1943.
Besides his son, he leaves four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held in Lindsay on Friday, May 23, conducted by the pastor of the Lindsay Baptist church, and burial was made in Olive cemetery there.
