MRS. DAVID DOWNS OF WINTERSET DIES

Succumbs After Operation at Local Hospital on Saturday

Mrs. David Downs of Winterset died at the Winterset hospital Saturday night, July 31st at the age of 34 years. She had a major operation at the hospital on Friday and her condition continued to grow worse.

Mrs. Downs was the former Miss Inez Kinnaird, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Zene Kinnaird (Zenus L. & Saretta M. Lathrum Kinnaird) of St. Charles. She attended the St. Charles schools and taught for several years in the rural schools of Madison county. She and Mr. Downs were married November 21, 1925, and they have been living in Winterset since 1934, he being manager of the county yards. She has been an active member of the Methodist church and is president of the Are-en-chiel club. She was also a member of the American Legion auxiliary.

The body was taken to St. Charles to the home of her parents. The Rev. M. R. Talley of the local church and the Rev. E. L. Patterson of St. Charles will conduct her funeral services at the St. Charles church, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock. Burial will be in the St. Charles cemetery.

Mrs. Downs is survived by her husband, one daughter, Bonnie Lee, aged eight years, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kinnaird, two brothers, Sammy and Dean at home; one sister, Mrs. Harold Davis of Knoxville, and an aged grandmother, Mrs. Sam Lathrum of St. Charles.

The county yards will be closed Tuesday afternoon so the men can attend the funeral as a group. A number of the members of the local legion and auxiliary are also planning to attend.
