MRS. BYRON DOWNS KILLED IN COLLISION

Mrs. Byron Downs, a former resident of the St. Charles community, was killed in a highway accident Sept. 13 at Cumberland, Wisc., where she had lived for many years. She was 57 years of age.

Mrs. Downs was born Aug. 12, 1901, at Rice Lake, Wisc., and was married to Charles Mabus of Mikana, Wisc., in 1919. They were parents of 6 children. Mr. Mabus died in 1952, and on Sept. 19, 1953 she was married to Byron Downs of Cumberland. After their marriage, they lived for a time at St. Charles before returning to Cumberland.

She is survived by her husband; two sons; and three brothers.

Funeral services were held Sept. 17 at Cumberland, and burial was made in Cedar Lake cemetery near Rice Lake.

Coordinator's note: Her gravestone has "E. Pearl" and the 1940 Federal Census has "Stella P." so she is probably "Estella Pearl".
