Former Resident Died Last Wednesday at Age of 95 Years
Mrs. Mary Carney, a former resident of Madison county, died Wednesday, June 25, in Des Moines where she had lived since 1953.
Mrs. Carney was born in Omaha, Sept. 26, 1862, a daughter of Edmond and Catherine Commons Hartley. She was the last surviving member of a family of 11 children. Her death occurred at the age of 95 years.
When she was a child the family moved to a farm in Madison county, where her early life was spent. As a young woman she was married to James E. Carney of Omaha. Their married life was spent in Nebraska, until his death in 1935. After that she came to Winterset to make her home until 1953.
Funeral services were held last Saturday from St. Josephs Catholic church in Winterset, conducted by the Rev. Daniel Higgins, S. J. The body was taken to Denver for burial.
