Was Madison County School Teacher Many Years Ago
Mrs. Mary A. Manley, who spent her early life in Madison county, died Jan. 13 at Ft. Myers, Fla., according to word received here this week.
Mrs. Manley was the former Mary Agnes Vance of this community, and was a niece of the late Walter Vance in Winterset. She was a native of Chattsworth, Ill., where she was born in 1877. She was 80 years of age at her death.
She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Vance. She came to Winterset with her parents as a small child, and received her public school education in Winterset. After attending normal school at Princeton, Ill., she returned to Madison county to teach school at Bevington, Hebron and near Winterset.
She was married Dec. 7, 1898, to W. O. Manley. They started housekeeping at Maryville, Mo., but in 1906 moved to Pierre, S. Dak., where they remained until 1922 when they moved to Clewiston, Fla.
