SERVICES HELD FOR MRS. MAGGIE HOBBS

Was Former Madison County Recorder. Died At Her Home Wednesday.

Mrs. Maggie Reese Hobbs, 68, lifelong resident of Winterset, died at her home here Wednesday evening. She had been ill for the past three weeks.

Mrs. Hobbs was widely known in Madison county having been a successful candidate for the office of recorder in 1932 and serving the two year through 1933 and 1934. She was later employed in the city library.

Mrs. Hobbs was Margaret Bella Reese, daughter of David and Jane Elizabeth Reese and was born in Winterset, August 6, 1869, in the home just two doors east of the home where she died. She became a member of the Methodist church at the age of 16 and was a graduate of the Winterset high school.

She was married to Bion D. Hobbs on Thanksgiving evening 1891 by the Rev. C. L. Nye who was then pastor of the Methodist church. They spent about nineteen years of their early married life in Springfield and St. Louis, Missouri, where Mr. Hobbs was in the garage business. Mrs. Hobbs spent her time keeping the books for the business.

Her life had been a busy one. She loved her home and was always helping someone and found much joy of life in sharing with others in a helpful way. She was a member of the church at the time of her death, but was unable to attend regularly because of home duties.

She leaves a husband, and two nieces and a nephew, Mrs. Hazel Barrus and Mrs. Edna Childers and Albert Reese of Sumner, Iowa. Also several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held from the Tidrick Funeral home on Friday at 1:30 and interment was made in the Winterset cemetery, Rev. Talley officiating.
