FORMER TRURO RESIDENT DIES

Mrs. Bessie Bender, formerly a resident of Truro, died Sunday, June 19, in the Mahaska county hospital at Oskaloosa, after a brief illness. She was 68 years of age.

Mrs. Bender had been living at Fremont at the time of her death. She was a native of Richland county, Ohio, where she was born Oct. 27, 1886. She was the former Bessie D. Smith, daughter of James and Sarah Smith. She came to Iowa with her parents when she was 17 years of age, and the remainder of her life was spent here.

Her husband, Edward W. Bender, preceded her in death.

She was a member of the Truro Methodist church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Garry Rankin of Truro, and Mrs. George Black of St. Charles; a son, Waldo Bender of Mitchellville; three sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held June 21 from the Fremont Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. R. Underwood. Burial was made in the Fremont cemetery.
