RICHARD E. LETZ DIES AT 86 YEARS

Retired Farmer Had Lived Half Century in This County

Richard E. Letz, a resident of Madison county for half a century, died Saturday, March 14, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 86 years of age.

Mr. Letz was a native of Cass county, where he was born Dec. 2, 1872, a son of Henry and Jane Cooper Letz. He was married at Creston on Feb. 16, 1898, to Marguerite McIntyre. She preceded him in death in 1941.

Mr. Letz active life was spent in farming. He had been retired in recent years, and had been making his home in Winterset.

He was a member of the Methodist church at Greenfield, and had been affiliated with the Knights of Pythias lodge for about 50 years.

Surviving are five sons, Clarence W. Letz of Des Moines, Cecil A. Letz of Winterset, Donald Letz of Earlham, and James and Dale Letz of Winterset; four daughters, Mrs. Alice Arnold of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Veronica Stout of Winterset, Mrs. June Clague of Earlham, and Mrs. Byrl Armbrest of Des Moines; 18 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Nora Hamilton of Greenfield; and a brother, Walter W. Letz of Berkley, Mich.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Robert A. Owens, pastor of the Winterset Christian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
