Nels Charles Nelson, the seventh son of Hans Peter and Christena Nelson was born at Earlham, Iowa, on February 18, 1871 and passed away at the Woodland Nursing Home in Des Moines, March 15, 1947 at the age of 76 years and 25 days.
His early life was spent in and around Earlham, where he grew to manhood. He was united in marriage to Christena Boyer, who preceded him in death September 9, 1906.
On August 9, 1909 he was united in marriage to Vinta Anthony and to this union seven children were born, Earl Nelson of Cambridge, Penn.; Dale Nelson, Esther Henderson, Mae Hill of Des Moines; Charles Nelson of St. Joseph, Missouri; Marie Henderson and June Wilson of Des Moines.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his children, one sister, Mrs. Mary Davis of Des Moines and 17 grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
He served an enlistment in the Regular Army of the United States Army and received his honorable discharge at Omaha, Nebraska, in 1893.
Nels Nelson was a man who loved his fellowman and tried to make this world a better place in which to live. He will be remembered by many of the people of this town and community.
Funeral service was held Wednesday from the Welch Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. S. R. Overholser and burial in the Earlham cemetery.
