Death of Jessie S. Peters

Winterset and Madison county residents were shocked to hear, Wednesday morning, of the unexpected death of Miss Jessie Peters, of Winterset. Miss Peters became ill last week, with an infection in the ear, and she was taken to the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, on Sunday. Septicaemia had developed, and her condition continued to grow worse. She died Wednesday morning; January 8th at 5:30 o’clock.

Miss Peters has always lived in Winterset. She was born here, November 29, 1883, and was a daughter of Mrs. Sarah F. Peters, and the late Joseph Peters. She attended the Winterset schools and was graduated with the class of 1896, and has taken an active interest in the church, the Sunday school and the young people’s organization. She taught a Sunday school class for a number of years, and several years ago organized a group of Camp Fire Girls, of which she was the guardian. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, and the Business and Professional Women’s club. She is survived by her mother, a brother, C. R. Peters, of Des Moines, and two sisters, Mrs. Addie Hickman, of Hamburg, and Mrs. Catherine Lochrie, of Ilwaco, Washington.

The Rev. John H. Hall will conduct the funeral services at the Baptist church this afternoon, Thursday, January 9th, at 2:30 o’clock, and burial will be made in the Rock City cemetery.

Jessie Snavely Peters

Jessie Snavely Peters, daughter of Jos. L. and Sarah Frances Peters, was born in Winterset, November 29, 1883, and died in Des Moines, January 8, 1930, after a brief illness.

She attended the Winterset schools, graduating from the Winterset high school in the class of 1903.

Early in life she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, and in 1896 was baptized into the fellowship of the Winterset Baptist church, of which church she had, since then, been a faithful member. As best she could, she had tried to follow the footsteps of her Lord and Master, and because of her life and testimony we believe there is laid up for her a crown of righteousness.

Miss Peters engaged actively in the work of her church, especially loving little children, with whom she worked with great success. She leaves behind in the young lives with whom she came in contact, an immeasurable influence for good. Always trying to be of a cheerful and happy disposition, she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Besides her connection with her church she was also a member of O. E. S. of Pasadena, California, and B. & P. W. club of Winterset, and took an active interest in the latter.

In addition to a host of friends, she leaves behind the following sorrowing relatives, her mother, Mrs. Sarah Peters, of Winterset; Mrs. Addie Hickman of Hamburg; Mrs. Catherine Lochrie, of Ilwaco, Washington, and C. R. Peters, of Des Moines.

Brief services were held at the house at 1:30 o’clock, after which services were held in the Baptist church, with Rev. John T. Hall officiating.

Burial was in the Winterset cemetery.
