CLAUDE EWICK DIED SATURDAY

Resident of Winterset for 52 Years; Was 88 Years of Age

Claude Ewick, a resident of Winterset for 52 years, died Saturday, May 23, at Memorial hospital in Winterset, after several years of failing health. He was 88 years of age.

Mr. Ewick was a native of Russellville, O., where he was born April 25, 1871, a son of Harry and Hannah Ewick. He came to Madison county as a young man, settling first in the Blair chapel community and later living at Patterson.

He was married here Nov. 25, 1897, to Jennie Carter. They had made their home in Winterset for 52 years. Mr. Ewick was a barber by trade, and also a carpenter.

He had been affiliated with the Odd Fellows lodge for 57 years, since first joining the chapter at Patterson. He was a member of the Baptist church since childhood.

Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Lyle Nicholson and Mrs. Dale Brooks, both of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a sister, Mollie Ewick of Ohio.

Funeral services were held Monday, from the Anderson home for funerals, conducted by the Rev. John Porath, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made at Blair chapel cemetery.
