BLIZZARD CLAIMS ONE LIFE HERE

Earl Clements Dies in Snow Near His Home South of Earlham

The blizzard last Saturday night claimed one life in Madison county when Earl E. Clements died in the snow while attempting to walk from his stalled pickup to his home southeast of Earlham.

Mr. Clements was 59 years of age. His death apparently resulted from a heart attack brought on by the exertion of battling the high wind and deep drifts.

He had been spending the evening at the home of a near neighbor, Lyle Summy. He left the Summy home about 9:45 p.m. driving his pickup. They watched him until the lights of the pickup disappeared from sight at the top of the hill.

Sunday morning Summy went to the home where Clements lived alone. He passed the pickup stuck in a snow drift and went on the the house, where he found no one at home, and the chores not done. He retraced his way back down the road and found Clements' snow covered body in a clump of bushes near the road. He was in sight of his house when he died.

Mr. Clements was not married, and his only near surviving relative is a brother, Oran Clements, of Oregon.

Funeral services will be held this Saturday at 1:30 p.m. from the Earlham Presbyterian church. Burial will be made in the Earlham cemetery.
