JOHN L. LOWDEN Died On Monday

John J. Lowden, a well known Madison county farmer for many years, died at a nursing home in West Des Moines Monday, Oct. 27, 1947. He was 85 years of age.

Mr. Lowden had spent most of his life in Madison county. He was born near Fairfield, the son of Edward and Marjorie Cochran Lowden, but came to Madison county at an early age. With the exception of five years in Adair county, the remainder of his life was spent here. After he retired from farming, he lived in Winterset for many years.

He was married Dec. 18, 1890, to Mary Jane Read. Her death occurred in 1946.

Surviving are two sons and a daughter, Ernest Lowden of Truro, Frank Lowden of Winterset, and Mrs. Joe Jones of near Pitzer. He also leaves a brother, Will Lowden of Adair county, and a sister, Mrs. Ada Bowlsby of Des Moines.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday afternoon from the Ramsey - Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. G. L. Hufstader, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was to be made in the Winterset cemetery.
