WILLIAM BRITTAIN BURIED HERE TUESDAY

Veteran Petty Officer in U.S. Navy Died Oct. 1 at San Diego

Funeral services for William Brittain, a retired chief petty officer in the U. S. navy, who died at the San Diego Naval hospital Oct. 1, were held here Tuesday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home. The Rev. G. L. Hufstader, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church, conducted the services, and Green-Rogers post of the American Legion participated with its ritual. Burial was made in the McDonald cemetery.

Mr. Brittain was a native of Madison county and spent his early life here. He was a son of Alfred and Julia Brittain, pioneer residents. He joined the U.S. navy in 1908, serving 28 years before retiring a few years ago. He was 70 years of age at the time of his death.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Martha Guiberson of Van Meter and four brothers, Seth and Robert Brittain of Winterset, Newt Brittain of North Dakota, and David Brittain of Des Moines.
