ANOTHER SOLDIER MISSING IN ACTION

William Edwards and David Miles Killed;
William Woody Missing

Sgt. William H. Edwards, son of Maude and Gaylord Edwards, was born April 10, 1909, at the farm home in Scott township, near Winterset. At the age of 11 years, he united with the Zion Federated church. He graduated from the rural school and attended Winterset high school for two years with the class of 1928. He then returned to the farm and assisted his father.

He was united in marriage to Mildred Hanson of Forest City on Oct. 14, 1934. To this union one child was born, Marilyn Kay, of Glendale, Calif.

From the fall of 1938 to the fall of 1942, he was employed at Bancroft, Ia., by the International Harvester company. On March 1, 1941 he was united in marriage to Jessie Ann Ash of Fairmont, Minn.

On Oct. 6, 1943, he enlisted in the army air forces as an airplane mechanic, and was sent to Midland, Tex., where he served as crew chief and engineer. He met his death April 20 in the crash of an army transport plane near Sweetwater, Texas, giving his life in the service of his country at the age of 36 years.

He leaves his wife; his daughter, Marilyn; his father and mother of Winterset; three sisters, Mrs. Dale Thomas of Palo Alto, Calif., Lt. (j.g.) Marian Edwards of Bremarton, Wash., and Eleanor Edwards of San Jose, Calif.; and one brother, Irvin Edwards of Winterset. He also leaves two nephews, Sherman Thomas of the army air forces, at Amarillo, Tex., and Frederick Irvin of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held with military honors this Thursday from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. M. R. Talley of Greenfield, former pastor here. Pfc. Joseph P. McDonald of the U.S. army, will be present as honorary escort. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
