Killed Feb. 14 in Germany; Wife and Baby Are Living Here
Mrs. Betty Wise of Winterset received a telegram from the War department last Friday advising her that her husband, Pfc. Richard D. Wise, had been killed in action Feb. 14 in Germany.
Private Wise was 24 years of age, and was the son of Mrs. Leo Morgansen of Waterloo. He had lived in Winterset for about five years, attending the Winterset high school and later working for the Anderson Hatchery. Following his marriage to the former Betty Hern of Winterset, they moved to Waterloo, where he worked for the Rath Packing company prior to entering the army last May.
He had been overseas since November, and was serving with an Infantry division of Simpson's Ninth army.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a 3-year-old son, Dickie.
