JOSEPH L. BRYAN

Joseph Lynch Bryan, son of A. L. and Catherine Bryan, was born at Winterset, Sept. 1, 1860 and departed this life March 14, 1923, aged 62 years, 6 months and 14 days.

In 1905 he was united in marriage to Miss Clara M. Barnes of Peru. To this union were born four children: Thomas Isam, Joseph Earl, Mary Catherine and John Lewis, who with their mother, are left to mourn the departure of a loving father and husband.

Besides his immediate family he leaves one brother, H. A. Bryan of Liberty Center, Iowa; and three sisters: Mrs. Jennie Van Horn and Mrs. M. A. Ariss of Des Moines, and Mrs. R. A. Springer of Bloodland, Mo., besides a large circle of other relatives and friends.

He was a devoted husband and father and a great lover of his home. Mr. Bryan spent most of his life in Madison county, having resided on the farm where he died, for 48 years. He was affiliated with no church, but was a firm believer in the power of prayer and Jesus Christ, and remarked many times that he was ready at the calling of his Savior. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. and A.F. & A.M. orders.

Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist church at 11 a.m. Saturday, by Rev. Shannon, the Masonic order giving their service for the dead. Interment was made in the Ebenezer cemetery.

Those who came from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Isam Barnes of Litchfield, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Simpson of Winterset; Mrs. Jennie Van Horn, Mrs. M. A. Ariss and Mrs. Sarah Hunt of Des Moines and C. A. Marler of Murray.
