IN FATAL CRASH ON HIGHWAY 169

Farmer Driving Tractor on Highway is Hit by Large Truck

Andrew F. Robison, well known young farmer of this community, was killed Tuesday afternoon when a truck crashed into the tractor he was driving on highway 169, just south of his farm home in Lincoln township. He was 38 years of age.

Robison, who lived on the Sherman Baker farm four and one-half miles south of Winterset, was returning home from his father's farm a few miles southwest. He was going north on Highway 169, driving a tractor with a wagon hitched behind.

He had reached a point a half mile south of his house, when a large seed corn truck from Grinnell, also going north, came up from behind and crashed into the wagon and tractor.

The truck was driven by Carroll M. Dean of Grinnell, and had his helper as passenger. It was a large truck, heavily laden with seed corn.

Dean said that he had turned out to pass Robison and his equipment. Details are not quite clear as to just what happened, but for some reason the truck crashed into the wagon, hurling it against the tractor on which Robison was riding. The wagon was demolished, and Robison was evidently crushed between parts of it and the tractor steering wheel. The tractor was damaged and the front wheels were knocked out from under the truck.

Neither occupants of the truck were injured. Robison was rushed into Winterset in the car of a passerby, but was dead when he reached here.

The deceased was born in Jackson township, Feb. 15, 1907, the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Robison, and had lived all his life in this community.

He is survived by his wife, the former Maxine Morse; an infant son, Claude; his father, C. M. Robison; one brother, Curtis Robison of Clarion; and three sisters, Mrs. Ira Johnson, Mrs. Horatio Simmons, and Mrs. Floyd Dennis, all of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2:30 p.m from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home.

(Burial was made in Winterset cemetery)
