Kenyon Dead

Our telegraphic column contains a dispatch noting the death of D. P. Kenyon, a former citizen, at St. Louis. Whether from laudanum or what, it was still a suicide – poisoned himself with bad whisky.
A man of fine abilities and excellent business capabilities, he allowed his taste to drag him first to the gutter and then to the drunkard’s hereafter. Can no law be devised that will chain the monster that is bringing so many orphans among us, and breaking the hearts of the widow and fatherless everywhere.

An Iowa Merchant found dead in his Room

St. Louis, Aug 31.

D. P. Kenyon, merchant tailor of Corning, Iowa, was found dead in his room at the St. Nicholas hotel yesterday. As a bottle of laudanum was found in his pocket, it was supposed he had committed suicide, but the coroner’s jury returned a verdict of “Died by congestion of the brain.” He had been drinking pretty hard.
