Hazel Aldrich, daughter of Edwin and Viola Jane Richey Aldrich, was born on a farm near Menlo, Iowa, in Guthrie county, December 15, 1894. When she was a child they family moved to Stuart where she attended school.

On March 1, 1903 the family moved to a farm north of Earlham known as the Pleasant Hill community. She attended the rural school, later graduating from the Bear Creek High School.

She was united in marriage to Harold Cook on February 18, 1919. They began their home on a farm near Bonilla, South Dakota, later moving to the Bear Creek community. Two children were born to this union, Dorothy Jane and Lyle Edwin.

Hazel was a member of the Bear Creek Friends Church and the Missionary Society. She will be remembered as a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Preceding her in death were her parents; a brother, Forrest, and a daughter, Dorothy Jane.

Survivors include her husband, Harold; a son, Lyle, and a daughter-in-law, Jeannie; two grandchildren, Dorothy Dianne Richardson and husband Kenton, of rural Redfield, and Philip Lyle and wife Barbara, of Russiaville, Indiana; two great grandchildren, Darcey Jill and Drew Kenton Richardson; two sisters, Bertha Stanley of Winterset and Margaret Turner, of Des Moines, and two brothers, Lester Aldrich, of Stuart, and Everett Aldrich, of Adel. Other relatives and many friends survive to cherish her memory.
