JANE SMITH Dies At Rock Island

Jane Smith, a resident of Madison county virtually all of her life, died last Thursday in Rock Island, Ill., at the home of her foster granddaughter, Mrs. Margaret Carlson, with whom she had lived in recent months. She was 85 years of age.

Miss Smith was born near Winterset on Jan. 26, 1861, the daughter of Orris H. and Eliza Ann Pizel Smith.

She was preceded in death by her foster daughter, Eunice Gertrude.

Surviving are the foster granddaughter, Mrs. Carlson of Rock Island; three sisters, Mrs. Olive Bond of Winterset, Mrs. Inez Decker of Colo, and Mrs. Elizabeth Rehard of Winterset, and two brothers, Tom Smith of Winterset and Earl Smith of Macksburg.

Funeral services were held here Monday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. G. L. Hufstader, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Pleasant View cemetery.
