WILLIAM ARNOLD, Griswold

William E. Arnold, 92, of Griswold and formerly of Red Oak, died March 19, 2007, at the Griswold Care Center.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 22, at the First Christian Church in Red Oak with the Rev. JoAnn Thomas officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery.

William Arnold was born June 30, 1914, to George H. and Cassie E. (Snyder) Arnold of rural Red Oak. He attended country school during his elementary years and was a 1933 graduate of Red Oak High School. His marriage to Ruby J. Tomlinson took place Feb. 14, 1937, at the Tomlinson family farm west of Red Oak. William and Ruby farmed near Red Oak and for several years sold bottled milk to area grocers. They moved to several farms in the Stanton area before settling on a farm in Frankfort Township, where they resided for 30 years. At different times in William’s life he worked at the Maxell/Swanson D-X Service Station in Red Oak. He also had been a director of the Maplehurst No. 7 Country School. Following their retirement from farming in 1975, William and Ruby moved to Red Oak. William was a member of the First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon, and was a charter member of the singing group, Happy Warblers. In December of 2003, William and Ruby moved to the Griswold Care Center.

He was preceded in death by a brother, G. Wayne Arnold, and a sister, Gertrude Boley.

He is survived by his wife, Ruby, of Griswold; one son, Robert W. Arnold of McClelland; one daughter, Jane Jurgens of Winterset; and four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Christian Church in Red Oak or Heartland Hospice.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Sellergren-Lindell-DeMarce Funeral Home in Red Oak.
