MORTUARY

H. T. Clampitt, son of William H. and Sally Clampitt, was born in Madison county, August 21, 1857, and passed away August 10, 1929, aged 71 years, 11 months and 20 days.

He spent his boyhood on the farm, attending a rural school and assisting in the care of an invalid mother until the age of thirteen. From this time on he assisted in operating a farm until the age of sixteen after which he went out into the world to make his own way.

On February 12, 1880 he was united in marriage to Alice C. Henderson, who preceded him in death November 8, 1910.

To this union were born eleven children: S. F. Clampitt, of Adel; Ora M. Clements, of Dexter; Mrs. S. E. Stringer, of Perry; Mrs. R. F. Branson, of Guthrie Center; Mrs. Chester Fisher, of Pleasantville; Mrs. Walter Throckmorton, of Storm Lake; Mrs. Russell Krusenstjerna, of Odebolt; W. D. Clampitt, of Dexter; J. W. Clampitt, of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Mattie Reed, of Spirit Lake, who preceded her father on March 4, 1925, and one dying in infancy. Besides these there are twenty-four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one brother, D. F. Clampitt, of Winterset.

On March 20, 1912, he was married to Eva D. Silverthorn, of Greenfield, who still survives him with her children, Mrs. Mae Haney, of Creston; Mrs. Stella Connell, of Greenfield; Mrs. Ruby Fox, of Red Oak, and one son, John Clare, preceding in death November 23, 1922.

Mr. Clampitt spent the greater part of his life in the ministry, assisting in organizing a number of churches in Guthrie county and surrounding territory.

It has been the custom of the family for a number of years to have a reunion on or near Mr. Clampitt's birthday, and at the last reunion his message to the family was: "There is only one problem in life. Solve that and you have it all. That problem is the relation between me and my heavenly father, between me and my fellowmen. Be faithful to these and the future will take care of itself. It is not what we take out of life, but what we put into life that makes it better. With me the evening shadows are lengthening, the sun is getting near the setting, as Paul would say, "The time of my departure is at hand. I am now ready to be offered, have fought the fight, have kept the faith, am finishing my contest and now looking for the crown of life".
