Roy E. Evans, the son of William C. and Henrietta Ford Evans, was born December 6, 1912 in Casey, Iowa. He passed away February 14, 1981 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines where he had been a patient for several days following a heart attack.

Roy graduated from Casey high school in 1931. He later attended mortuary school in St. Louis, Missouri and became a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in 1937.

On February 21, 1937 he was united in marriage to Helen Johnson in Adair, Iowa. They moved to Dexter in 1938 and started Evans Funeral Home of Dexter. Roy also assisted his family for a time with the operation of Evans Funeral Home in Casey. In later years he purchased the funeral home in Earlham. Roy and Helen have also owned and operated Evans Clothing Store in Dexter for over 25 years. In 1974 they sold the funeral homes and continued the operation of their store.

Roy also served his country proudly for 33 months during World War II.

Roy was a member of the Dexter Methodist Church, the American Legion Post, Mount Tabor Lodge #293 A.F. and A.M. and the Dexter Community Club.

Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Neil of Earlham and Gene of Dickeyville, Wisconsin; three grandchildren, Jeff, Greg, Nicole; one sister, Mrs. Wilma Luck of Yorktown, Virginia and two brothers, David O. of Phoenix, Arizona and his twin, Ray, of Wichita, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and three brothers.

Roy liked to be active and found his greatest joy in his two sons and their families.

Funeral services were conducted from the McKee Funeral Home, Dexter, Iowa on February 17, 1981 with Rev. Jerry Evelsizer officiating. "How Great Thou Art" was the special music. Casket bearers were Charles Carlson, David Evans, Robert Evans, Dennis Johnson, Jerry Johnson, Sam Whetstone. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery, Casey, Iowa.
