R. T. SCHOENENBERGER DIED LAST FRIDAY

Succumbs at His Home in Winterset After Long Illness

Ralph T. Schoenenberger, member of one of Madison county's most prominent families, died at his home in Winterset last Friday after a long illness. He was 60 years of age.

Mr. Schoenenberger had been living in Winterset since the first of March, when failing health had forced him to retire from active business in Creston, where he had lived for the past several years.

The deceased was the son of John and Lavina Schoenenberger and was born in Walnut township on December 13, 1878. He was married to Grace Adeline Hartsook on Nov. 28, 1900. His life was spent on a farm in Walnut township until 1921, when he moved to Winterset to engage in business here. After a number of years here he moved to Creston four years ago.

Mr. Schoenenberger was a master Mason of the temple at Peru, and of the order of the Eastern Star of Winterset. He had been a member of the Winterset M. E. church since 1925.

Surviving him are his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Peters of Winterset; two sons, John and Paul Schoenenberger of Omaha; a sister Mrs. Adelaide Madden of Russellville, Ark.; and three brothers, Walter, Iver and J. G. Schoenenberger all of this county.

Funeral services were held from the Anderson funeral home Sunday, conducted by the Rev. J. R. McNichols of the Methodist church, assisted by the Rev. J. H. Cochrane, Jr., of the Baptist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

FORMER BUSINESS MAN DIED FRIDAY

Funeral Services Were Held Sunday for Father of Mrs. Carleton Peters.

Ralph T. Schoenenberger, Winterset business man for many years, died Friday at his home on West Washington street following an illness of several weeks. Mr. Schoenenberger who was 61 years of age, operated a market here for several years. He had spent the past four years in Creston, failing health necessitated him to retire from active business in December 1938 and he returned to Winterset to live.

Ralph Travis Schoenenberger, son of Lavina C. and John Schoenenberger, was born December 13, 1878, in Walnut township, Madison county, Iowa. He was united in marriage to Grace Adeline Hartsook on November 28, 1900. Until his marriage he had always lived at the parental home in Walnut township, thereafter established his new home on a farm in the near neighborhood. Following the death of his father he returned to the home farm where he remained until moving to Winterset in 1921.

He was raised as a Master Mason on March 31, 1917 in Hazel Lodge, A.F. & A.M. in Peru of which he was a member at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Winterset, and had been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Winterset since 1925.

The surviving relatives are: his wife, one daughter, Mrs. Carleton Peters of Winterset; two sons, John and Paul of Omaha, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Adelaide Madden of Russellville, Arkansas; and three brothers, Walter J., Ivor E., and John Guy, all of Madison county.

The funeral services were held from the Tidrick funeral home Sunday afternoon at three o’clock, conducted by the Rev. J. R. McNichols, assisted by Rev. J. H. Cochrane, jr. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
