FRED MONTGOMERY DIED ON SATURDAY

Veteran Rural Mail Carrier Succumbs at Home in Winterset

Fred Montgomery, veteran rural mail carrier in Madison county, died at his home in Winterset last Saturday after a brief period of failing helath. He was 58 years of age.

Mr. Montgomery was a native of Warren county, where he was born Sept. 19, 1882. He was married on Sept. 12, 1903, to Josephine M. Slinker. The wedding was solemnized at Truro by the Rev. Mr. Boyd.

He was a member of the Methodist church at Truro and later transferred to the Winterset church.

Mr. Montgomery's home had been in Winterset since 1915. His active life was spent as a rural mail carrier in this county, and he had been retired since 1934 under the 20-years service law.

He is survived by his wife; and seven sons: Kenneth of Mt. Union, N. J., Everett of Los Angeles, Cal., Orville of Lomita, Cal., Carroll of East Orange, N. J., Herbert of East Moline, Ill., Ernest of Schofield, Hawaii, and Paul at home. He also leaves two brothers, Hugh Montgomery of Carpenter, Wyo., and Sam Montgomery of Indianola; and a grandson, Richard Montgomery of Mt. Union, N. J.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Winterset Wednesday in charge of the Rev. J. R. McNichols, pastor.
