John (Jack) Kelleher, 69, died at his home on October 10, 1992, due to cancer. Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 12, at S. Joseph Catholic Church in Winterset with Father Frank Palmer and Father John Lorenz officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
Mr. Kelleher was born on December 11, 1922, in Des Moines to John and Helen (Kane) Kelleher.
He married Carita Alf on Nobember 26, 1960 in Newton. He was a well-known farmer and a lifelong resident to the area. His friend and neighbor, George Mueller, had this to say about him, "If you had Jack for a friend, you had a loyal friend. He was as genuine as anybody could be and was always there ready to help if you needed it.
He was a member of the American Legion, the Madison County Cattlemen's Association, and served as Madison County Soil Conservation Commissioner. Mr. Keller also was vice-chairman of the Madison County Democratic Committee, a member of the Sigma Nu Iowa State University Fraternity, and was the l968 sweepstakes winner in the Iowa Soil Conservation Achievement Awards. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. He also was a veteran of the U. S. Navy Air Corps serving in WW II.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister.
Surviving relatives include his wife; three daughters, Jane Otton and Mary Kelleher, both of Dallas, Texas, and Meg Shearer of Des Moines; two brothers, Paul Kelleher of Grand Junction, Co. and Dennis Kelleher of Denver, Co; and three sisters, Dorothy Bredar of Denver, Co., Jo Mitchell and Mary Nelson, both of Des Moines.
Memorials may be sent to his church, the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Central Iowa.
