Obituary J. I. Strawn

John I. Strawn was born near New Cumberland, Ohio, July 2, 1849 and died at Truro, Iowa July 14, 1907, aged 58 years and 12 days. He was married May 18th, 1875 to Alice Wallick at her father’s near New Philadelphia, Ohio. She with the seven children all grown except the youngest survive him, his being the first death in the family.

He united with the church in early life and was a member when called away. He taught school for many years during the winter season, but followed farming and stock raising all his life except the last four years. He was stricken with paralysis nearly four years ago, since which he has been a constant invalid until the disease proved fatal. By his own request made soon after he was first seized in the clutches of the persistent malady, his cousin, Elder C. H. Strawn, of Prairie City, Iowa, conducted his funeral service in the Christian church in Truro, basing his sermon on Phil. 1:21-24. A large concourse of people manifested their interest, respect and sympathy by attending the service.

The children reside as follows: E. Josephine, now Mrs. F. M. Howe, with her husband and two children in Buffalo, Wyo., H. Blaine and his wife and four children, north of Murray, Iowa; Edgar R. near Buffalo, Wyo., W. Howard of Buffalo, Wyo., arrived at home a few weeks before his death. Charlie, of Kaycee, Wyo., arrived in time for the funeral and will remain at home with his mother and sister; Maude H. of Des Moines, was present at the funeral; Grace A. at home at Truro. Blaine, Howard, and Grace with the wife and mother and many sympathizing friends were at the beside when his spirit took flight.
