Mrs. Alice Finney Dies

Mrs. Alice Finney, widow of the late Alonzo Finney, died at her home here Monday at the age of 88 years.

Mrs. Finney was one of the pioneers of the county. As a child she came here with her parents in a covered wagon. In 1904 she united with the Church of Christ, and through the years she remained a devoted Christian.

She was married to Alonzo Finnery in 1868. They were the parents of five children, one son dying in infancy, and another; Butler B. Finney, dying in 1920. Three of the children remain. They are Mrs. J. A. Brady of Minneapolis, Oliver Finney of Los Angeles and Eugene Finney of Oregon. She also leaves a sister, Sarah Jane Hubbard of Chicago, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Funeral services were held from her home in Winterset, Wednesday, in charge of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead of the Church of Christ. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.

AGED WOMAN DIES – SERVICES ARE WED.

Mrs. Alice Finney, 88, Iowa pioneer, a native of Pennsylvania, died early Monday morning at her home in the northwest part of Winterset.

Born in Colesburg, Pennsylvania, in March 1848, she came to Madison county in a covered wagon, in the early days when Madison’s courthouse was yet a log building. She was married to Alonzo Finney in 1868. Mr. Finney died eight years ago. She became a member of the Church of Christ in 1904.

She is survived by three of her five children, Mrs. J. A. Brady of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Oliver Finney of Los Angeles, California; and George Finney of Eugene, Oregon. One son died in infancy and Butler B. Finney in 1920. Others who survive are a sister, Mrs. Sarah Jane Hubbard of Chicago, Illinois; and five grandchildren.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon at the home of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead, pastor of the Church of Christ; burial in Winterset cemetery.
